The Ecology of You: Why Healing Yourself Heals the World

When I first began shaping The Ecology of You™, people asked me, "Where did you come up with this? Are you just making it up?"
The truth is, I didn't invent this work. I gathered the wisdom, science, and lived experience that were already here — like seeds scattered across the soil — and brought them together into one ecosystem.
The Ecology of You™ is not a new religion, not a quick fix, and not another self-help program. It is a way of remembering: that your body is part of the Earth, that your relationships are ecosystems, that generosity is natural when we are whole, and that spirit flows through everything.
When we begin to see our lives ecologically, something shifts. "Self-care" stops being selfish. It becomes the first step toward planetary care. Heal yourself, and you begin to heal the mirror of humanity and Earth that reflects back at you.
Why Ecology?
Ecology is the science of relationships — how systems connect, interact, and sustain one another. We use it to understand forests, soils, watersheds. What if we applied it to ourselves?
Your body is soil: your gut microbiome mirrors the living earth beneath your feet.
Your mind is a climate: thoughts and emotions can be stormy or clear, nurturing or destructive.
Your relationships are ecosystems: some are balanced and mutually supportive, others are extractive.
Your purpose is a sun: it fuels life, growth, and resilience within you.
Just as an ecosystem can collapse under stress, or can thrive in balance, so can a human life.
"Self-care isn't selfish. It's the first step toward planetary care."
Why You?
Because restoration begins with you.
For years, I lived in cycles of destruction and repair of my own making. Addiction, loss, and self-sabotage kept me trapped. The ecological restoration of me was the turning point.
Through permaculture, recovery wisdom, soil biology, and spiritual practice, I began to see that what heals a forest can heal a person. That forgiveness, gratitude, and community are as vital as compost, roots, and sunlight.
This program was born from that realization: if we restore the ecology of the self, we create ripples that restore families, communities, and the Earth itself.
Learning From Ecological Restoration
Much of this came into focus for me while serving as a conservation commissioner, and later as an ecological restoration landscaper — reviewing projects, writing Notices of Intent, issuing Certificates of Compliance, overseeing restorations in wetlands, forests, and meadows.
At first, it was all about the land. Somewhere along the way, I realized these processes were teaching me about myself.
Notice of Intent — Before any project begins, you declare your intention. The same is true within: we cannot heal what we haven't named.
Review & Conditions — Every project is examined, guided by rules that protect the ecosystem. Inside, this mirrors the pause, the reflection, the boundaries that protect our growth.
Certificate of Compliance — Only after the work is proven stable does a project receive closure. In life, too, we acknowledge completion, celebrate progress, and move forward with integrity.
Monitoring & Stewardship — Restoration is never one and done. It requires ongoing care, just like the healing of a human life.
Across those projects — the ones I managed and the ones I restored with my own hands — I learned that ecological restoration is not just about land. It is a universal process of renewal. And if I could apply those same steps inside myself, I could restore my own inner ecology.
The Tools and the Structure
The Ecology of You™ weaves together:
Permaculture ethics — Earth Care, People Care, Fair Share — as the foundation
Ecological restoration practices — intention, process, compliance, monitoring — adapted for personal transformation
Modern science of microbiomes, neurobiology, and systems thinking
Wisdom traditions from Taoism, A Course in Miracles, Alcoholics Anonymous, and more
Practical practices — from soil-based healing and natural farming to journaling, meditation, and relationship work
This isn't about information overload. It's about integration — a framework, a compass, and a set of tools to rewild your life and remember your wholeness.
You don't have to fix the whole planet. You only have to begin with yourself.
The Ecology of You™ is the reminder that your life, just like a wetland, a meadow, or a forest, can be restored.
And when you restore it, you restore the world around you.
If something in this stirred, there's more waiting. Six seats are open in the Autumn Equinox Founding Circle — a twelve-week guided restoration process beginning September 22nd. Applications are open now →
